the ten commandments

ok, so these are like 10 rules to not sucking, or things i learned while making our new record or something. i was almost gonna include this new agey crap within the liner notes of the cd, but tommi nixed the idea, suggesting it was more blog-worthy than cd-worthy. so here they are:

it is nearly impossibly to create a piece of perfection alone. by harnessing the creativity, abilities, and energy of yr collaborators, together you can create something more than the sum of yr parts.

always push forward to become better.

always search to find new ways of expression and do not be afraid to try new tools to push yourself out of any established comfort zones.

no cliché, trope, or idea is off limits. everything from the past is open to assimilation and can be used at least once.

it is always acceptable to play to one’s strengths, even if it means occasionally repeating oneself. perhaps this time the execution will be stronger and better.

respect the ideas and input of yr collaborators. if at first something does not seem to work, give it time and accept the challenge to find a way to make it work.

don’t be an ego-centrical bitch.

never try to create for yr perception of an audience. always follow yr own instincts and create only for yourself. whatever audience you have will sense yr authenticity and respect yr integrity.

you never absolutely need drugs or substances to induce creativity, even if sometimes they help release yr inhibitions.

never establish any rules that can not be broken.
